Bob Gimlin at the 2015 Ohio Bigfoot Conference

We had a great time at the 2015 Ohio Bigfoot Conference. Most people are familiar with the Patterson-Gimlin film. It is probably the most famous video of a supposed Sasquatch. Here is a video of Bob Gimlin talking about his 1967 encounter.

Ohio Bigfoot Conference 2015

The Ohio Bigfoot Conference is this coming weekend and we are very excited to be going. We have been attending this conference for several years and it is always a lot of fun and very informative. There is a great lineup of speakers this year including Loren Coleman, John Kirk III, Bob Gimlin, Jim Sherman, and Dr. David Floyd. The conference is held annually at Salt Fork State Park in Ohio. The park is beautiful and the area has long been a hotspot for Sasquatch activity. If you have never been to the park or the conference we highly recommend you check out www.ohiobigfootconference.com.

Follow us this weekend here and on twitter as we bring you updates on the conference speakers and events.

We are of the " No Kill Philosophy"

We here at Sqwatchout.com have adopted the no kill philosophy. When it comes to Bigfoot we believe killing these creatures for the sake of proving its existence is the wrong choice. There are many others with the opposite viewpoint and although we do not agree that killing one of these creatures is the best option we do have to agree with some of the points that these proponents make. In this digital age any video or audio evidence can be easily credited as fake, and without a body that can be studied by multiple experts and examined by scientists along with the media there is very little that can be proved to the public at large especially when it comes to these mysterious animals. It is most likely that it will take a body to once and for all prove that these creatures are real. So is the killing of say a "Bigfoot" the way we should go? Should we be stalking hotspots with rifles in order to kill one of these elusive creatures? Our opinion is "No". Let's be honest, there are enough hunting accidents every year, we don't need to compound that by sending people in to the woods looking to shoot big animals walking on two legs. Tall hikers and Josh Gates beware!! A group of these creatures being tracked and studied by researchers should be preferable to one being shot and killed by someone just to prove their existence. All a body gives us is DNA and anatomy. There is so much more to be learned by studying the habits, social structure, and personality of these creatures. What we should be looking for is consistent evidence of these creatures in one location that can be tracked. If a group of these creatures could be studied in their own habitat on an ongoing basis we would soon get the "proof" needed to satisfy the masses. Tranquilizing, GPS tracking, and constant monitoring would be essential but it would prove the existence of these animals. So why hasn't this been done? There are a few people in the US that say they know of groups of these animals from consistent sightings and contact. They know the area they live in and some of there general habits...they even call them habituated in some circumstances. To them I say "Show me the money!!!" Take me to these locations and let see whats there. Let me see your proof for myself and if these creatures are really there lets bring in some experts to really take a look at them. Letting the right people study these creatures can put an end to this debate. Getting these animals recognized by science and put under federal protection if necessary should be our main concern.
So to sum up, the Sqwatchout.com team is of the no kill philosophy. We agree that will probably take a body of one of these creature, dead or alive, to prove their existence to the masses, but the the collection of said body should be done along with he careful and minimally invasive study of these creatures in their natural habitat.
If there are those of you out there reading this that know where these creatures are...know where we can see them and know where they can be found on a consistent basis...let us know! We will investigate, we will bring experts and we will scientifically prove that these animals exists while being minimally invasive to their society.

Why fake Evidence?

Why do people fake evidence of cryptid and UFO encounters? Obviously in this digital age a good story or video can get you hundreds if not thousands of online hits before anyone even really try's to debunk the event and once something uploaded it stays there "on the line" (as Vince Vaughn would say ;) ) and there is definitely money to be made. But why discredit yourself...why bring that attention. Obviously not every reported sighting or event is as it seems...human error must be brought into account. Many people honestly believe they saw what they say but after careful analysis their encounters can be dismissed as miss-identification of something mundane or scientifically explainable. But what about the others? What about the people that purposefully fake evidence. Are they looking for notoriety..their 15 minutes of fame? Are they trying to discredit legitimate sightings and an turn their researchers or are they just trying to be funny and think there is no harm in it? What do you think?
On a bigger scale how do television shows that do this effect those of us that seriously study these phenomena? There are a few shows on television that that say that they are reality but are obviously staged. Do they have a place in our community? Are they 100% detrimental to the scientific study of cryptids and UFO phenomena or is the fact that they are entertaining and bring in an audience that may have not originally looked into the subject enough for us to justify their existence? Is the fact that they have have made these subjects more mainstream and accessable to a wider audience, while in turn falsifying video and evidence for television appeal, enough for us to welcome them with open arms to the arena of legitimate researchers?

Please give us your opinions.

Dr. Jeff Meldrum and Steve Kulls will be speaking at Cabela's Wheeling WV in a couple weeks.

Dr. Jeff Meldrum, Professor of the Department of Biological Sciences at Idaho State University and Steve Kulls “The Sasquatch Detective” will be speaking at the Cabela's in Wheeling WV the weekend of March 6-8. No matter your stance on Dr. Meldrum's association with Tod Standing this should be a very interesting and informative weekend. I advise anyone in the area to make the trip.

Who are we?

First of all, Thank You for checking out our blog! Since you are here something about us must have raised your curiosity, but now you are probably wondering...Who are these people?...What are they blogging about? and... Why should I listen to them? We wanted to give you some quick answers to those questions.

We are the crew from Sqwatchout.com. We are a husband and wife team dedicated to the research and study of sasquatch/bigfoot and other cryptozoological creatures. Our goals are to do field research, build relationships with local resources and experts around the world. We then want to bring this knowledge to you.

Josh's Bio:

I have been interested in and studying cryptozoological creatures since I was young. I am a former National Park Ranger with a background in Environmental Science and Wildlife Management. I am also an avid camper, fisherman and general outdoorsman and I bring a scientific, zoological, and rational viewpoint to the study of Sasquatch and other cryptids. I would love to find evidence to prove the existence of sasquatch or other bipedal apes. I believe that the evidence is out there and that with the increased interest in the subject as well as ever encroaching urban development all over the globe that it may only be another few years until the existence of these creatures is proven. We are creating this website to share our research, build relationships with local resources, and learn from experts in the field.

Jackie's Bio:

I am also a former National Park Ranger with a degree in Resource Management and Environmental Education. I married into the cryptid craziness. I believe in the existence of sasquatch because we find new species every day both big and small. I have been living and camping in PA all my life and it took my almost 18 years to see a turkey. It is not like they wern't around, I was just never in the right place at the right time. Now I see them all the time, my point is why society dismisses sasquatch when there are records of sightings. How often so you see a bear, mountain lion, box turtle or beaver? Most animals avoid people and they are very good at it, so if they do not want to be found they know where to hide. Look at folk lore, cave drawings, and historical travel diaries. Bigfoot and other cryptids are prevelant in all of them. Just because the average person doesn't see them doesn't mean they don't exist.
